The need for Tribu Matigsalug's Harvest Market
By Dana Gabrielle B. Tautho

After several visits and tree growing activities with our partner Indigenous People (IP) association in Marilog, i.e. Matigsalug Association of Council of Elders, Marilog District, Davao City, Inc. (MACOEMDDCI), we learned that one of their primary needs to sustain the tree growing activities in the area is the tangible support to market their farm produce. Since agriculture is their main livelihood they dream of having their own harvest market to be run by the association itself so that IP farmer members do not have to sell their products to some middle man or trader anymore. This way, the association can intervene in the marketing directly to several public markets and malls in the City at a more competitive price.
Recognizing this need, R2R started planning how to jumpstart this idea into action by studying the actual market demand of their produce, production rates, potential farmer partners, and the establishment of the harvest market along the Davao-Bukidnon (Buda) Highway. Listen to what the IP leaders have to say about this future social enterprise endeavor of the association in collaboration with Ridge To Reef group.
